double bill (analog)

unintentionally double-exposed films, initially lost due to overexposure or light leaks, salvaged in post-production editing.

on a personal note, my heart always breaks when my films come out with too much light leakage, and it's always a gamble for post-production editing, but there is an element of surprise to them that make it obnoxiously dangerous.

very little indication of how pretty the photo beneath the light is, and yet, after editing, it reveals all its intricacies: how the two memories overlay, each marring details of the other. there is a helplessness in the way the light chooses which memory has more weight and more clarity -- i like this precisely in the way we surrender to both the camera and the light.
